Words of Art / Painting

Words of Art / Painting
"It is necessary that we should grasp some of the basic and important terms in Art / Painting in order to understand the vastness of the subject and the borders it shares with other art forms. Below are some of the words used in painting."

~

Acrylic Paint – is fast-drying paint containing pigment suspended in an acrylic polymer emulsion. Acrylic paints can be diluted with water, but become water-resistant when dry. Depending on how much the paint is diluted (with water) or modified with acrylic gels, mediums, or pastes, the finished acrylic painting can resemble a watercolor or an oil painting, or have its own unique characteristics not attainable with the other media.

Accuracy – is the degree of closeness of a measured or calculated quantity to its actual (true) value. Accuracy is closely related to precision, also called reproducibility or repeatability, the degree to which further measurements or calculations show the same or similar results.

Advertising – is a form of communication that typically attempts to persuade potential customers to purchase or to consume more of a particular brand of product or service. Many advertisements are designed to generate increased consumption of those products and services through the creation and reinforcement of "brand image" and "brand loyalty". For these purposes, advertisements sometimes embed their persuasive message with factual information. Every major medium is used to deliver these messages, including television, radio, cinema, magazines, newspapers, video games, the Internet and billboards. Advertising is often placed by an advertising agency on behalf of a company or other organization.

Anatomy – is the consideration of the structure of living things. It is a general term that includes human anatomy, animal anatomy (zootomy) and plant anatomy (phytotomy). In some of its facets anatomy is closely related to embryology, comparative anatomy and comparative embryology, through common roots in evolution.

Brewing – the creation of an astronomical body's atmosphere, especially affecting its surface, and strongly implying severe weather. It may be marked by strong wind, thunder and lightning (a thunderstorm), heavy precipitation, such as ice (ice storm), or wind transporting some substance through the atmosphere (as in a dust storm, snowstorm, hailstorm, etc

Color – is the visual perceptual property corresponding in humans to the categories called red, yellow, blue and others. Color derives from the spectrum of light (distribution of light energy versus wavelength) interacting in the eye with the spectral sensitivities of the light receptors. Color categories and physical specifications of color are also associated with objects, materials, light sources, etc., based on their physical properties such as light absorption, reflection, or emission spectra.

Color Sketching – a 2 unit Fine Arts subject that deals with exercises to develop manual dexterity in handling various color media in the representation of three dimensional objects and space medium/media must have to be specified.

Composition – In the visual arts — in particular painting, graphic design, photography and sculpture — composition is the placement or arrangement of visual elements or ingredients in a work of art. It can also be thought of as the organization of the elements of art according to the principles of art. The term composition means 'putting together,' and can apply to any work of art, from music to writing, that is arranged or put together using conscious thought. In the visual arts, composition is often used interchangeably with various terms such as design, form, visual ordering, or formal structure, depending on the context. In graphic design and desktop publishing, composition is commonly referred to as page layout.

Dexterity – can be defined as coordination of small muscle movements which occur e.g., in the fingers, usually in coordination with the eyes. In application to motor skills of hands (and fingers).

Drawing – is a visual art that makes use of any number of drawing instruments to mark a two-dimensional medium. Common instruments include graphite pencils, pen and ink, inked brushes, wax color pencils, crayons, charcoals, chalk, pastels, markers, stylus, or various metals like silverpoint. An artist who practices or works in drawing may be referred to as a draftsman or draughtsman. A small amount of material is released onto the two dimensional medium which leaves a visible mark—the process is similar to that of painting. The most common support for drawing is paper, although other materials such as cardboard, plastic, leather, canvas and board, may be used. Temporary drawings may be made on a blackboard or whiteboard, or indeed almost anything. The medium has also become popular as a means of public expression via graffiti art, because of the easy availability of permanent markers.

Drawing Fundamentals – a Fine Arts subject that teaches the students to Develop manual dexterity in the use of pencil, charcoal, pen and ink, and other media used in freehand drawing of either colored or black and white. Using monochromatic dry media or colored media.

Its slow-drying properties have recently been used in paint-on-glass animation.

Painting
– is the practice of applying paint, pigment, color or other medium to a surface (support base). In art, the term describes both the act and the result, which is called a painting. Paintings may have for their support such surfaces as walls, paper, canvas, wood, glass, lacquer, clay or concrete. Paintings may be decorated with gold leaf, and some modern paintings incorporate other materials including sand, clay, and scraps of paper. Painting is a mode of expression, and the forms are numerous. Contemporary Art, How it is inspired by the past and how it romanticize the past?

Contemporary Art
"How it is inspired by the past and how it romanticize the past?"

Primitive and their fashion.

The ancient primitive age are composed of many tribes, they have their own set of clothing that can symbolize their own clan, race and beliefs. The fashion which the actor in the movie “10,000 B.C.” is an example of what kind of clothing the people of this age wear, it is very common that these people made them out of an animals fur, leather and those which are made of tough skins. The contemporary maker of the costume must be able to however make a clothing which was worn by the these ancient people before. Therefore it was fashioned and it is able to romanticize the type of clothing people of the primitive age wear. The Contemporary designers made a research about these things, like the clothing of the early tribes and the nomads, from the history which took place back in time to theories, fossils and scientific basis. This clothing may not resemble the perfect image back in the past because it was made by a contemporary fashion and costume designer, but it is however related because people make their clothes out of nature and its fullness.

Mesopotamian Graphics

The contemporary Mesopotamian art entitled “Fish Seller” was made in 1994 using the aquarelle technique with a Measurements of 13 3/4 x 19 5/8 Inch. The figure shows us a man selling his fish to gain income, this is similar to what the people of Mesopotamia did in the market and public places, money and business was a necessity in the past and still is today in a place formerly called Mesopotamia and now is called Iraq.

Egypt and related Films

The film by Ben Kingsley entitled “Moses” resembles the past ancient Egypt, it shows us the way the people in Egypt spent their lives, cultures and beliefs. We can see how these people wear their clothes, how they use art as their way of expression, their designs and sculptures, and their way of telling a story or writing history. The film Moses was made on the 7th of April 1996, it is a retelling of the bible story where the Pharaoh Ramses decrees the death of all Hebrew children, and where Moses encountered God to do his will, where plagues and disasters strike the land of Egypt because of the unwillingness of Ramses to let the Hebrews go and so on. Therefore because this film does not only shows us the things written in Exodus but even highlights one of Israel and Egypt’s history, it definitely captures the things of the past Egyptian age.

The Lamb

"The Lamb"
(Acrylic on Canvas 16X20)
By Keith A.

The lamb for me symbolizes some important things that I hold on to, my beliefs, my faith and my trust in a supreme sovereign authority that made it all happen. It has been a vital part of my life from the day I first believed till the very end comes, it reminds me of salvation, humble as a lamb He submitted Himself and laid down His life for His friends, the greatest love of all that's what. It also reminds me of sacrifice, for the forgiveness and cleansing of sins.

The sacrifice of lambs played a very important role in the Jewish religious life and sacrificial system. When John the Baptist referred to Jesus as the “Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world” (John 1:29), the Jews who heard him might have immediately thought of any one of several important sacrifices. With the time of the Passover feast being very near, the first thought might be the sacrifice of the Passover lamb. The Passover feast was one of the main Jewish holidays and a celebration in remembrance of God’s deliverance of the Israelites from bondage in Egypt. In fact, the slaying of the Passover lamb and the applying of the blood to doorposts of the houses (Exodus 12:11-13) is a beautiful picture of Christ’s atoning work on the cross. Those for whom He died are covered by His blood, protecting us from the angel of (spiritual) death.

The very next day John saw Jesus coming toward him and yelled out, “Here he is, God’s Passover Lamb! He forgives the sins of the world! This is the man I’ve been talking about, ‘the One who comes after me but is really ahead of me.’ I knew nothing about who he was—only this: that my task has been to get Israel ready to recognize him as the God-Revealer. That is why I came here baptizing with water, giving you a good bath and scrubbing sins from your life so you can get a fresh start with God.”

John 1:29-31

It is through His death on the cross as God’s perfect sacrifice for sin and His resurrection three days later that we can now have eternal life if we believe in Him. The fact that God Himself has provided the offering that atones for our sin is part of the glorious good news of the gospel that is so clearly declared in 1 Peter 1:18-21: “For you know that it was not with perishable things such as silver or gold that you were redeemed from the empty way of life handed down to you from your forefathers, but with the precious blood of Christ, a lamb without blemish or defect. He was chosen before the creation of the world, but was revealed in these last times for your sake. Through him you believe in God, who raised him from the dead and glorified him, and so your faith and hope are in God.”

Raining at the Night Market

"Raining at the Night Market"
By Keith A.

One of my old paintings when I was still in high school, I made this as a gift to my Aunt on Christmas Day to show my gratitude to all the good and remarkable things she has done to me. It was a simple painting and I was hoping that she would like it, I put all my energy in finishing this piece in just one night, well a couple of hours in the early morning I guess. Today it's beautifully framed and displayed inside her home, I am happy to see them once again looking back on all the silly things I did as I was working with this art.  So many nostalgic moments, it was fun at every angle, I can say for sure that my Aunt liked it.

SNEAK PEAK “The Warrior in the Shadows”

 SNEAK PEAK
“The Warrior in the Shadows”
by Keith A.

That night, Kougare wrote a letter before leaving the town.

“I want to start this letter with big thanks for letting me into your life, I was a stranger in the cold of night, yet you didn't hesitate to help me, I never knew there would be such a person that’ll be kind enough to a criminal like me. I remember one time I saw you so down, I asked why? You seem so troubled; I can see that in your eyes, those eyes were afraid to look at me, I heard how you speak and I can hear your heart whisper to mine. I want to comfort you, I want to repay you, but I just can’t see myself worthy to do those things at that time.

Thank you for all the good things you've done unto my life. By simply talking to me and sharing stories, you’ve made me your friend, I never noticed. I never saw it coming; I can simply say I was surprised. I was just a lame wanderer, a beast of the night. I never deserve to be treated kindly, but you did it anyway. Looking back at you and seeing those lovely eyes I am blessed with such a friend. I have said to myself that I may not be the first one you knew or even the longest one you’ve known, but I will be like one till the end, I will be always here in the background, supporting you. I'll be the wall you could lean on, a shield that'll protect you.

I am ever weak, and my strength might falter one day, but Oh, I know the Master is with me, I am sure that I will be able to keep you away from harm. I am not perfect, like other people I also made many mistakes. My heart, my soul are bruised by constant battles I got involved in. Even though we are far away, I can discern you, I can feel what you feel, but sometimes I just don't know…

I will stay near your heart, ready to listen and comfort you my beloved friend. From the depths of my heart I have loved you; I will always be with you supporting you my dear friend. I will be happy for the sake of your happiness; I have untied the armor of selfishness, removed the helmet of pride and threw away the sword of violence. May the Master bless you and keep you safe at all times. Thank you and remember I love you.”

After he finished writing the letter, tears were falling from his eyes as he kissed Royce on her forehead while she was sleeping. He then placed the letter in her hands as he slipped and vanished into the dark.

Status Recovering - A Wounded Soldier

"Status Recovering - A Wounded Soldier"
By Keith A.

Currently running this race... hmm getting tired a bit. I have so many things to say...

I share the same burden, the same passion... The longing of my heart just to reach my comrades, those who are particularly lost, those lost in war, and those who are ruined by tragedy... I have experienced the same things... I was wounded in battle and lost a lot of the areas I covered, little by little as I get back to shape I volunteered to help others. I know I alone can never make this possible... I need backup.

The world has been one of my greatest enemy... I know it can be conquered... The world says when you feel it, then its legitimate... Frauds! Smoke! It's like heading on a bad end. I couldn't care less... The truth is, when you feel it and it is the Master's will then and only then it is legitimate. I can't risk myself to be a part of that casualty again, enough is enough I'd say. I have failed my mission many times, thankfully the Master is gracious enough to lend me a helping hand and lift me up from this mess I've made.

If people know me by heart, they'd understand these words I am talking about. I will be here for just a moment... Years will fly like eagles and you'll just realize how quick things happen... Hair turns gray and beauty fades away. If you believe something that is life changing, test it! How? Remember there's always evidence to right things, and that truth will expose the fraud which you thought was right.

A person who claims that he is a good one, and claims all the possible positive characteristics that you may find, is a person so full of himself that he wanted to lie to deceive people. Smoke! Let us not claim to be righteous... we are all in the same pot... I know, on my own... I can never save them all... For I am but a dry stick which can easily be snapped in two.

There are evidences everywhere, why can't you see it... What happened to those eyes? Believe it or not I can never see the world half way as you guys do. It really doesn't matter if someone out there cares for me or not... But if there are people who cares then I'd count it as a blessing. I still care to the careless, If I die... I would wanna die helping and also being with people I love the most.

If what you believe is far too much comfortable, your surely believing a lie. Lives are at stake, we are not born to satisfy our own. This is Hanz... if there's anyone still alive out there, I really need a helping hand.

Courage and Godspeed.

My Treasure

"My Treasure"
By Keith A.

As the new day arrives and the sun shines illuminating it's light through the windows, I remember my love, her very presence, I knew it in my heart how lovable she is, seeing her face dazzles and shines like the sun, it penetrates the deepest part of my soul. I just can't stand up yet... I want this little time to cling to her as I look back and think of the things we did, each sound of her voice is as beautiful as the natural rushing of the gentle breeze, her voice nurtures my heart. I look at her eyes, yes those beautiful eyes like the a rare gemstone, it's such a rare find. People took one good look and were amazed, I myself am amazed and whats more is I own this lovely treasure. Her heart beats the rhythm of love, her love circles through my heart and it felt like I was somewhere in the paradise of her world.

Holding her soft hands I kept on thinking more and more of her. I remember looking at her intently, and she can't just look back at first. Her wonderful presence tames me, I was captured by her amazing beauty. Our friendship was a blessing, it's something worth keeping and worth taking care of. I just wanted to be by her side at all times, I wanted to take her away with me when the right time comes... that is... someday soon. I love her so much that I just can't think of living the rest of my days without her. It'll be something aweful living a life without her...

I wanted to be as straight as possible to say what I really am supposed to say, the sun keeps on rising and the time keeps running, waiting was like a thousand years and ignoring the time was like a passing second... what a big difference... I would want to freeze the moment that I am with her and I want to fast forward the times that were not together... well, it just can't happen that way. Its just not possible... I stood up and looked at the mirror, looking at myself and I said, "Now I am a grown man, it has been years since I looked at myself this way"... I have chosen to love her with all my heart, to respect her and take good care of her... to be always there for her and to love her with all of my heart unconditionally. It's simple as saying that I loved her, because I love her.

People may begin to wonder of whom I am talking about, people may laugh and jeer at me, I just don't care. I am a simple person, an average guy.It doesn't matter much... All that matters to me is my love, she is my only treasure... she's the only one. Her very self mends me and makes me whole as a person, she completes me at every angle... and I walk in total love of her.

Is it like this every morning? You may ask... yes it is, its always like this every morning, its also like this every passing time. it has always been like this since the day I knew her. My love for her will never fail, my love for her will never run dry, my love for her will continue to overflow, my love for her will surpass time... cause my love will always be there even the time comes that I am gone... even if her hair turns gray, her skin loosens her appearance change... it doesn't change my love cause I will love her with everything I am... before and even after the day I die.

Her name rings in my heart, her voice whispers to my ears, her love wraps me up and I am whole. She's my beloved treasure. What is her name? People may ask... who is the person that makes me like this? She is a special person, someone I really care and love... I see the rushing clouds, violently moving in and covering the entire sky, but bright is the day even in the cloudy and dark skies whenever I am with her... because she's the sun that lights through the blacks and grays.

I can't get enough of her, I just sit here waiting and hoping for the best of the days to come. I just look around thinking of things I can do for her...

One thing is certain... that this love will never grow cold, for I have loved her unconditionally and without limits. Whose that person and what is her name people may ask? She is no other, but my very treasure named Krishna, she is the one for me and no one else can replace her, for her position in my heart is permanent... More permanent than permanent.

As I was thinking of these I realized its was already time to sleep...even dreams hold no rest for my love for Krishna... it goes on and on and on... till the next day arrives, My love keeps rushing forth, a wild wave. I look up and prayed, whispering my prayers... and I thank God for this wonderful gift.

Lampara

"Lampara"
(Acrylic on BrownBoard)
By Keith A.

A simple light that has proven to color the lives of the simplest of men, it has been there for years to give light on their daily chores. For as long as the gas keeps on burning, it'll guide them for the mean time, for a little while longer.

Lion of Judah

"Lion of Judah"
(Acrylic on Canvas 16x20)
By Keith A.

One of my recent work, the "Lion of Judah" acrylic on 16x20 canvas. As a child I grew up reading Bible stories at school and at home, there are a lot of stories that really interests me and plenty of things to learn. It was fun and engaging whenever we have some sort of Ice Breaker. I Have watched numerous movies and cartoons with Biblical messages and was inspired by the stories of the Holy Book. Do not grieve for He has already won the war.

The Lion of Judah is the symbol of the Hebrew tribe of Judah (the Jewish tribe). It is also mentioned in the Book of Revelation, as a term representing Jesus.

~

But one of the twenty-four elders said to me, “Stop weeping! Look, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the heir to David’s throne, has won the victory. He is worthy to open the scroll and its seven seals.”

The Jeepney & Jeep to Escolta

(The titles are The Jeepney for the painting on top and Jeep to Escolta for the one below)

The Jeepney & Jeep to Escolta
(Acrylic on BrownBoard)
By Keith A.

Celebrating the popularity of the Philippine Jeepney / Jeep, the most used public transportation vehicle since the end of World War II. I painted this two for the "98B's Saturday X Future Market" at Escolta last 2015. It was a memorable time, I missed those days when I woke up early on Saturday and meet my partner halfway. Usually we ride the train together, carrying heavy loads of goods and art stuffs. We sweat a lot as we got down from the station because of the intense heat and humidity that greets us as we leave the train, we rode a jeep to Escolta and walk a little bit to get to our final place, it was tiring, but it was fun. I enjoyed every moment of those times together with the people who really appreciated our works and spend a little buck on it. I also learned a lot from experienced guys in the art world and listened to what they have to say. All I can say is I missed the atmosphere of those places, the smell of fine crafted woods, the bent steels, the aroma of vintage items and 90s toys. The glittering accessories, colorful paintings and wonderful handmade arts. There's so many eye-candies around, it was a wonderful place to grow as an artist. Good Memories.

Dancing Lights

"Dancing Lights Series"
(Acrylic on BrownBoard)
By Keith A.

The Dancing Lights concept, Acrylic on BrownBoard. These two are inspired by the glares of running light under the darkness of the night. The beautiful blinking lights that had always caught our attention whenever we're in a deep mood of self reflection or quiet time.

Colors and Glare.
